Packaging / Handling

  • Check the packaging for any damage observed.
  • Handle boxes with care. Dropping or jolting the box can damage the products and/or change the electrical characteristics.

Inspection & Installation

  • Installation of Voltage Transformers should only be performed by a qualified technician.
  • Check the VT visually for any damage. Verify whether any cracks are observed on top, side or bottom of the VT. If any abnormality is observed, contact us for further instructions.
  • Clean the VT surfaces using a soft cloth before installation.
  • Fix the fuse clamps and primary external connection link on the primary terminals of the VT with the cheese head screws provided on the VT terminals. Recommended torque value for the screw tightening is 17 in-lbs (2 Nm) max. External connection for primary terminals to be made using ring type lugs and minimum m5 or equivalent cheese head screws with nut, plain washer and spring washer, unless specified differently. Recommended torque value for the tightness of screw is 17 in-lbs (2 Nm). Do not over torque the connection.
  • For MV VTs Secondary connections to be made using ring type lugs with the cheese head screws provided on the VT, unless specified otherwise. Recommended torque value for the tightness is 22 in-lbs (2.5 Nm). For most LV VTs with secondary studs, recommended torque value is 16.2 in-lbs (1.9 Nm). Do not over torque the connection.
  • Check that the primary neutral terminal is grounded if it is intended to be earthed.
  • VT mounting bracket should be grounded at the earthing terminal provided on the bracket.
  • VT secondary terminals should not be shorted.
  • The operating temperature range for the VT is: - 25 deg. C to 110 deg. C. The storage temperature for the VT is: - 35 deg. C to 125 deg. C. Although the VT is able to withstand gradual increase or decrease in temperature; sudden thermal shocks of more than 20 deg. C must be avoided.
  • The mounting plate is fixed to the VT base with torque value of 123 in-lbs (14 nm) to the screws.
  • Recommended size for the mounting bolt for the VT mounting plate inside the panel is minimum m10 or equivalent size, unless specified differently. Recommended torque value is 123 in-lbs (14 Nm). Do not over torque.
  • Never short any secondary winding used or unused. LETHAL voltages may be present on the winding of VTs. We recommend that the installation or service be performed with the system de-energized. 

Recommended Minimum Spacings

  • Refer sketch and table below. Use suitable spacings between (1) unit to unit or Unit to Ground and (2) HV to ground in Air 
  • Recommended minimum spacings are for guidance purpose only. User must set proper values depending on requirement of High Voltage, BIL, Partial discharge etc. and depending on environmental conditions such as humidity, altitude and other configuration/application considerations.
